Amherst

Community Outreach

Amherst is committed to being a generous and responsible corporate citizen. Through the Amherst Foundation, we support numerous initiatives in areas where we live and work: in education; social services; and the health and welfare of our country's military personnel.

In Austin, Texas, where Amherst is headquartered, Amherst executives were a leading force in creating Cap City Kids (The Capital City Fund for Education), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Its mission is to provide volunteer and financial support to assist homeless children in gaining access to and benefitting from public education programs and institutions. To learn more about this program and to contribute to Cap City Kids, go to www.capcitykids.org.

Amherst supports Volunteers of America-Greater New York, one of the oldest and most effective social service organizations in the nation, serving 50,000 men, women and children in need in the metro New York area each year. One of the largest providers of services to homeless families, individuals, and veterans, Volunteers of America is also known for Operation Backpack, the city's biggest back-to-school drive, outfitting 8,000 homeless children this year alone, with new filled backpacks. For information go to, www.voa-gny.org.

In New York, Amherst also supports Citymeals-on-Wheels, one of the largest meals on wheels programs in the U.S., delivering 2 million meals to over 16,000 seniors each year. Along with delivering nutritionally balanced meals, Citymeals coordinates thousands of devoted volunteers to provide human companionship. For information, go to www.citymeals.org.
